About

Thorpe and Morrison - Supported by Hafren {Chris Roberts} 'Rising Stars' Thorpe and Morrison are an innovative and energetic folk duo based in Birmingham. They formed out of the vibrant Birmingham music scene in 2019 while studying at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. They have been making a name for themselves on the folk scene in England and have toured to much critical acclaim, receiving airtime on BBC and NPR radio stations. Festival appearances include Towersey Festival, Moseley Folk Festival, Warwick Folk Festival Power Folk 9, Gate to Southwell, Beardy Folk Festival and their most recent album “Live Shenanigans” was nominated by Bright Young Folk in their Reader’s Choice Poll for Album of the Year 2022. The sound of Thorpe & Morrison comes in many forms. Expressive and energetic live performances combined with subtle and nuanced arrangements have given them success in both festivals and studio settings. While at home in a folk setting, Harry and Sean have a vast amount of experience in other genres which they willingly allow to flow into their duo. Sean is an accomplished classical and experimental musician having performed at the highest level as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral musician with groups including Manchester Camerata as part of their pioneering 360 Fellowship. While Harry has performed around the country at festivals of Rock and Funk. These other genres have weaved their way into their sound in a rich and organic way. This unique sound will come to a head in their upcoming autumn release “Grass & Granite”, a record which ebbs and flows between stomping tunes, delicate vocal performances and weaving fiddle and guitar lines. Harry Thorpe and Sean Morrison are committed folk musicians who have drawn from their diverse musical backgrounds to create music that both respects the traditions it comes from while still exploring the potential for it’s progression. From Suffolk and Scotland respectively, they now combine these traditions. ~ "Thorpe & Morrison are rapidly ascending - one of the finest young folk and roots duos out there. Incredibly entertaining, energetic, and brimming with musicianship" "The energy of their Birmingham made Anglo-Scottish musicianship is palpable. Fiddle and guitar notes float around each other, creating a spellbinding mix of old and modern, both traditional and forward looking"
