A talk at 12:30 on Tuesday 28th May in Lecture Theatre 1 in the IAIS by Dr Shabnam Holliday of Plymouth University and Ali Mossadegh from Exeter University about Iranian politics and society from 1979 to the present day. Ali Mossadegh is a lecturer of Persian at Exeter University. He fought as a 2nd Lieutenant at the start of the Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988) on the frontline and prior to that, lived through the Islamic Revolution 1979. Ali will be speaking about: His personal experiences during the war as well as societal views at the time. Dr Shabnam Holliday is an associate professor at Plymouth University. She is a leading expert on Iranian politics and society. She will be speaking about: The Mahsa Amini protests and the view of the public towards the regime, the flare up in tensions between Israel and Iran and whether these issues pose a genuine threat to the Iranian regime.
