OLDFIELD YOUTH CLUB who are just about to release the debut LP THE HANWORTH ARE COMING on the prestigious TINY GLOBAL RECORDINGS (vinyl available at the show) play a very rare Hometown show. Formed by school friends Simon Rivers, Kim Ashford and Daniel Askenazy 40 years ago, after making tapes in Simon's fathers garage in Hampton. Neil Palmer joined on drums and they chose the name LAST PARTY from one of the many c90 garage tapes and then began making records. Singles of the week in both NME and MELODY MAKER followed, along with John Peel sessions produced by MOTT THE HOOPLE'S Dale Griffin. After 2 LPs and 10 singles and EP's they changed Their name to THE BITTER SPRINGS and continued producing original and critically acclaimed music over another 8 Albums and 10 singles. Simon put the Springs on hold just before lockdown, where he made what was to be his 1st solo record as THE POOR PERFORMER, the very different and very successful LIKE YER WOUNDS TOO also on TINY GLOBAL RECORDINGS. https://theoyc.bandcamp.com/album/the-hanworth-are-coming // https://thebittersprings.com/home // https://poorperformer.bandcamp.com/album/like-yer-wounds-too Named after the youth club in Hampton they would frequent as kids in the 70s-early 80s, OLDFIELD YOUTH CLUB came about when Neil Palmer former LAST PARTY and THE BITTER SPRINGS drummer started playing drums with Simon again and with Kim Rivers now on Bass and vocals, and later Alison Targett on Trumpet and Keys, OYC were formed. With the bands name evoking memories of their youthful endeavours, songs with a 70's theme and feel began to flow, resulting in the THE HANWORTH ARE COMING LP with JIM WIRTH giving it an excellent 4 star MOJO **** Review OYC are joined by special guests BALAMUC Eastern European gypsy folk legends. Their energetic set was one of the highlights from the 2023 High Tide festival in Twickenham https://www.balamucband.com AND spinning tunes between the bands is DJ JUKEBOX GEOFF (I've got this on vinyl at home)...
