About

A free afternoon concert in the company of Norwegian Male Voice Choir... Klosterøen og Scheensvassdraget Spadser og Mandssangforening. This men's choir was founded by its current conductor, Kjetil Svestad in 2010, it is associated with the Gimsøy and Nenset congregation in Skien. Kjetil Svestad is currently the organist and musical director at Nenset Church, where the choir rehearses. Founded as a 'men breaking out of an ordinary mixed church choir', as an expressed desire to establish a male voice choir. The choir needed a name, and a competition suggested many crazy and funny choices. A few were picked, put together and we got... Klosterøen og Scheensvassdraget Spadser og Mandssangforening. Simple and easy! In English this means something along the lines of... The Monastry - Island and Scheen-waterfall Walking and Singing Men’s Association. Scheen is the old spelling of our city, today it is Skien. Skien is located two hours driving west of Oslo and has approx. 55.000 inhabitants. Today, the choir consists of 25 singers, with 21 coming to UK, aged from 50 through to 80 years old. We sing both sacred, secular and popular songs, depending on the occasion. The singers come from different parts of the city and from different churches, and they represent a variety of talents, personalities and backgrounds. We are a bunch of happy amateurs, singing because we enjoy it so much. We hope to touch peoples hearts and bring our joy to others. www.xn--klosteren-r8a.no/ ~ This is a free to attend concert at the Norwegian Church. The Norsk Cafe Bar & Terrace will be open, serving cakes, pastries, drinks and more.
