Intermediate Foraging Walk

Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park

London

About

This walk is suitable for those who have been on a foraging walk before, or have some experience of foraging and want to grow their knowledge and connect with other plant folk. Dedicated newcomers are welcome too - we’ll be skipping some “foundational” plants but the content of the walk is designed to be accessible to anyone.  We’ll be learning about some less common plants, with the usual combination of identification, recipes, history and folklore. We’ll also be going into a little more scientific depth about plant families, flora/fauna (inc. insecta) relationships, lichen, etc. And, crucially, we’ll be talking about our foraging practise in a wider sense. There’s a lot to say but to give a few examples, we can talk about how foraging can strengthen our human connections, how to use models from the natural world to effect social change, where it sits in conversations about climate, foraging with children, and, what practises can truly, effectively care for these beings. At the end we'll make some wild sushi rolls in the woods, and also share a small foraged picnic with homemade snacks by Izzy from RFW. If you're prone to getting peckish, I would recommend having lunch before the walk. I'm excited to hear about your foraging journeys so far. ACCESSIBILITY Please let me know if you have any accessibility needs. Unfortunately this site is partly uneven woodland ground and is therefore not fully wheelchair accessible. Children are welcome at no extra cost, but please get in touch and let me know that they're coming. There are no baby changing facilities onsite. Support workers and carers are welcome at no extra cost. Please get in touch to let me know that they're coming. CONCESSIONS There is one free place available for someone who is unable or struggling to work right now. If this is you, get in touch via Instagram, Facebook or email. SUSTAINABILITY Whilst nibbling is encouraged, please note that we won't be harvesting anything to take home. You will, however, leave with enough knowledge to identify plants on your own. This way you can safely forage somewhere where they're growing abundantly. The dwindling green spaces in London make it all the more important that we are respectful. REFUNDS POLICY Tickets are non-refundable, but they are transferrable, so if you find that you can't make it, you're welcome to send a friend in your place.
