About

This session explores what we associate with and how we approach inclusion, highlights the concept of and challenge with intersectionality in programme work; introduces some building blocks (empowerment approach, barrier/power analysis, participation, data) to inclusion with focus examples of universal factors (and protected characteristics) gender, age, disability. The sessions will include some theoretical information and practical exercises/discussions. About the trainer; Karen Andrae Karen has worked for over 20 years in disability and international development with experience living and working in India, East Timor, China, and Angola, and working with partners in East and West Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. She is a social inclusion specialist with a focus on intersecting marginalisation, especially gender and disability along the life course. She has advised and provided training and support to organisations and multilateral agencies such as UN Women, Save the Children, Plan International, UNICEF, CBM, HelpAge, WFP, and others. Her expertise is in applying a human-rights, equity-focused and gender-transformative approach to research, programming and organisational learning
