This Saturday 11th March, Durham Climate Society are hosting a range of amazing speakers and panellists from 11-1pm in the Pemberton Rooms and in Chads Bar. Tickets are free and available to all. This event will be an amazing opportunity to hear from and question climate leaders, raise awareness of the climate crisis and discuss the future of sustainability in our university and beyond. We have many inspiring guests including the Mayor of North and Tyne; the Camp Manager of Elephant Watch Camp, Kenya; the Chair of the North-East Climate Coalition; Durham’s Head of Sustainability and many more academic, activist and student climate leaders. Pemberton Rooms, Palace Green: 11:00-11:40 – Business Panel – Dr Joanna Berry (Director for Business at the Durham Energy Institute), Joe Lipman (Founder, Name), Yuru (Founder, Hey Food is Ready), Professor John Hirst (Durham Business School) 11:40-12:20 – The Future of Sustainability in Durham - Jamie Driscoll (Mayor of North and Tyne), Paul Ennels (Chair of the North East Climate Coalition), Simon Park (Head of Sustainability, Durham University), Ellie Grimes (Durham County Council) Cosmo van Steenis (President, Durham Climate Society) 12:20-1:00 – Conservation in Kenya and beyond – Bernard Lesirin (Camp Manager, Elephant Watch Camp) and Kennedy LeMayian (Elephant Watch Camp) Chads Bar: 11:00-12:00 – Activism Panel – Dr Maja Kulaca (PhD in Psychology and the impact of activism), Julie Ward (MEP and Coordinator for Culture Declares), Flo Wright (Head Coordinator, EcoDU), Paula McMahon (Founder, Primary Voices) 12:00-13:00 – Extinction Rebellion Workshop & blockprinting T-shirt making After the talks we will be hosting some flower planting and pond restoring activities (weather permitting!) in the afternoon on Hild Bede grounds and you are welcome to join us for those. There will also be a climate pub quiz hosted at the Hild Bede bar from 8pm in the evening with some amazing prizes (including Toney’s Chocoloney!) with food available beforehand from our food stalls.
