In Conversation II : with Sir Christopher Frayling

The Courtauld Institute of Art, Vernon Square Campus

About

The Courtauld Students’ Union is honoured to announce the second in our “In Conversation” lectures series marking the departure of Deborah Swallow as Director of The Courtauld.   The award-winning broadcaster, writer and educationalist Sir Christopher Frayling is noted for his wide-ranging study of popular culture. His upcoming book ‘The Hollywood History of Art’ asks the question: if your knowledge of art history came entirely from Hollywood films … what would you know? A Fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge, Sir Christopher was Rector of the Royal College of Art, London, from 1996 to 2009, where he founded the Department of Cultural History and remains Professor Emeritus of Cultural History. In 2001, he was awarded a knighthood for "Services to Art and Design Education". His many public appointments have included Chairman of the Arts Council and Design Council and as a governor of the British Film Institute. Sir Christopher is also the longest-serving Trustee of the Victoria and Albert Museum, where in 2012 he co-curated the blockbuster Hollywood Costume exhibition. Tickets are free, open to all students and alumni. The event is step-free & wheelchair accessible. Please get in contact with the SU about your accessibility requirements at [email protected]
