About

Join us for our OUIS Cinema night event. We will be watching Mediteraneo by Gabriele Salvatores. Popcorns and spritz are included in the ticket. Mediterraneo is a 1991 Italian film directed by Gabriele Salvatores. The movie is set during World War II and follows a group of Italian soldiers who are stationed on a Greek island in the Mediterranean. Initially, the soldiers are hostile towards the locals and have a hard time adapting to the island's slow-paced lifestyle. However, as they spend more time on the island, they begin to develop friendships with the locals and even fall in love. The soldiers' experiences on the island challenge their nationalistic beliefs and ultimately lead them to question the purpose of the war they are fighting. Mediterraneo is a beautiful and poignant film that explores themes of war, identity, and connection. Salvatores' masterful direction brings the island's stunning landscapes to life and captures the soldiers' changing attitudes towards their surroundings. The film's powerful message is conveyed through its engaging characters and moving story, making it a must-watch for anyone interested in cinema that reflects on the human condition. Mediterraneo won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1992, solidifying its place as one of the most significant Italian films of all time.
