About

Hello everyone, The Geography Society are extremely happy to announce that Professor Gill Valentine will be our next guest speaker. Gill worked at the University from 1994 until 2004 as a lecturer, senior lecturer and professor within the Department of Geography. She returned in 2012 as the Head of the Faculty of Social Sciences and has since become the Provost and Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University. An incredibly influential career has seen her win research grants with values of over £5 million, published 17 books and written more than 150 articles that have been recognised by the Royal Geography Society and the Institute of British Geographies. Gill's research encompasses three interconnected areas: diversity and social inclusion, childhood and family life and urban cultures and consumption. Her innovative and diverse methods have included the analysis of audio-diaries, a 'Big Brother' diary room and public art. This is an opportunity that should be snapped up by any Geographer in the department as she is often a pivotal source of research throughout your degree. Join us on the 25th March at 18:00 in the Arts Tower Lecture Theatre 3 to listen to such an influential person discuss her academic work alongside how she has become one of the leading women not just at the University but within the geographic academia.
