QSS 2: Superstition, the unseen, and reality

Hackney CVS

About

Join the 2nd seminar of our monthly #QuranSessions series that builds on "QSS1: Faith, religion, and meaning". We hope to to cover: Is “religion” superstitious? Is accepting and affirming the Creator superstitious? - What does superstition mean? - What’s the difference between Abrahamic monotheism and superstition? - Where do superstitions come from? - How might we understand the metaphysical and entities like angels, jinns etc? - How might we understand benefits like barakah (blessings), ajr/thawāb (reward), divine protection etc? Does īmān in the unseen necessarily mean being superstitious? What is the ‘ghaib’ and does it mean unseen? - Unseen by everyone? - Does the nature of the unseen change over time (new discoveries, etc)? How do we understand ‘reality’? - Empiricism - Is it only as much as God has told us? Three topical dilemmas: - Jinn possessions - Magic - Evil eye
