TEDx University of Leeds presents: ‘Tomorrow is Today’

Clothworkers Centenary Concert Hall - School of Music

About

This year at TEDx University of Leeds, we strive to take you on a journey of realisation - that developments perceived as ‘futuristic’ are often much closer to becoming modern-day issues. We have drawn upon this theme due to the prevalence of related topics in current affairs. We want to link a wide range of topics together under this branding contrasting from environmental to cultural. Under this theme, we also want to highlight the applications of emergent technologies, focusing on how they are often stigmatised as being negative disruptors of today, ultimately threatening tomorrow. Is this the case? For many years society has overlooked the impact of its actions. With our theme, we want to cross-analyse these issues, enabling the audience to contemplate from different angles. One example would be plastic and single-use material waste. Considered as bad for the environment at first thought, but we also want to explore the connecting issues - in this case, that could be the potential disregard for over-consumption of resources. We hope that the discussion of ideas at this event will spark discussion and progression into securing a brighter, more fruitful, future.
