About the founder? The course will be running by myself, the founder of 0596club Johnny CT. I have formally worked as a comedy scout/ producer for Soho theatre where I have assisted the teacher in helping the new comics on the stand-up lab courses. As a Soho theatre Alumni myself, I was also on the course from the other side which has allowed me to receive expert comedy teaching to help my career when I decided to go out in the real world of stand-up comedy. I started stand-up comedy in 2020, one week before lock down then of course all the venues were shut and I was forced to stop for a year, within that period I started my own audio only podcast on Spotify where I interviewed different creatives including fashion stylists, models, skaters and even managed to get a feature from a former apprentice candidate, the podcast was doing good numbers but it was only something to keep my creativity going until venues were back open again. Around the end of 2021 venues were finally opening again and I was right back to writing material and performing at shows, I headlined my first open mic pretty early in my career I was on gig 15th when that happened and it went really well. Soon enough I would be on professional line ups with TV comics and my name would be more known around the comedy scene. In 2022 I was invited by one of my friends to take part in the Brighton fringe festival which I accepted, it was a featured show with 6 of us doing 10 mins each and the show was a big success, it was great to do my first show outside London. During the 4th day of the Brighton fringe, I was headlining the show and chose the line-up myself, with the fringe you’re responsible for the crowd so you have to go up to people and tell them about your show in hopes that they come and check It out, this is when I knew I had a talent for promoting shows as I managed to get 25 people to come to the show from the beach and the show was unreal, great day at the office! After the Brighton fringe I was back on the London circuit and decided I needed to do more shows outside London, within 6 months of the fringe I was doing shows in oxford, Cambridge, Bristol and Norwich. I was about a year into frequently performing comedy and with all the experience under my belt, I decided I was going to do my first hour comedy special title “mange moi” it was a special about all the hospitality jobs I’ve had and I think it was a success considering it was my first time being on stage for that long and there was 90 people there which I was very proud of! Moving forward to September 2022 I realized I was very good at scouting comedy and knew what was good and what wasn’t pretty quickly, I wanted to run my own shows, pick my own acts and create my own vibe/ crowd and that is exactly what I did. I created 0596club in October 2022 and the first venue I worked with was the chicken and hen theatre in Highbury, it was a sold out show featuring my favourite acts on the circuit. I didn’t want to just focus on the professional/ more established acts, I wanted to give the new comics a chance to shine as well, so I started running more venues each week to accommodate for them with a chance to progress to the professional set up and I hosted my very own gong show too which received great reviews. During this time, I showcased 5 different hour comedy specials and done my first show outside England when I went to Dublin twice. As of now 0596club is currently in 6 different locations around London and as we are expanding, I have decided to create a 7-week comedy course for new people to give stand-up comedy a try and maybe find their new passion/ career. Everyone who joins the course will be given regular stage time as soon as they're ready. Good luck!
