The Two Gentlemen of Verona

Clare College, Sunken Garden

Cambridge

About

One of Shakespeare’s very first plays, The Two Gentlemen of Verona is the story of Proteus and Valentine, two friends sent out into the world to make their fortune. Alas, classic Shakespearean shenanigans ensue: everyone ends up out in the woods, comic misunderstandings are had, and love triangles are resolved. Also, there is a pack of outlaws, a dog named Crab, and overindulgent use of sporks. What more could you want from a May Week Show? This version of The Two Gentlemen of Verona has inspired by the Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition, failed camping trips, and farce. It has been staged in Clare's newly reopened Sunken Garden, complete with a pond, flower beds, and the distant sounds of punters from the River Cam. It is a fantastically fun and whimsical show, and we cannot wait to see you there! DETAILS: The show runs from the 19th, 20th, 21st June, from 14:00-16:00, including a 10-15 minute Interval. We recommend that audience members turn up 10-15 minutes in advance to guarantee seating. VENUE AND DIRECTIONS: The play will take place in Clare College's Sunken Gardens. To get to the Sunken Gardens, we recommend that audience members head to EITHER: (1) the gate to Old Court alongside Queen's Road, next to the backs of King's College (CB3 9AJ), where our stewards will let you in, OR (2) Old Court Porters Lodge, which is off to the left of Senate House Passage next to Trinity Hall (CB2 1TL), where you will be guided by the porters. GENERAL TICKET HOLDER INFORMATION: There will be 50 chairs available in the gardens and a few benches, but audiences are more than welcome to bring blankets if they wish to sit on the grass. There will be a limited number of tickets available on the door - PLEASE BRING CASH IF YOU WISH TO PURCHASE ON THE DAY! This is an outdoor show, and as much as we are hoping for good weather, we strongly encourage that audience members bring their own umbrellas and suitable waterproof clothing as backup, as we will not be able to provide our own. We will prioritise the safety of our audience members, cast and crew above all, and will be making the necessary emergency provisions if bad weather hits. In the case of extreme weather, we will endeavour to relocate the show to an indoor venue. All emergency updates will be published in advance on Instagram via @clare_actors and @2.gents.at.clare. HEALTH & SAFETY: In case of a medical emergency, our on-site stewards will be available to collect the nearest porter and appropriate medical intervention. In case of hot weather, there will be water bottles available. As an outdoor venue, we are luckily dealing with little to no fire risk, but in the case of any extreme weather/flooding from the cam, we will make the necessary provisions on the day of the show to relocate. TOILETS: The nearest public toilets are in Old Court, E Staircase (down the stairs). Audience members are more than welcome to ask our on-site stewards or porters for guidance on the day! ACCESSIBILITY NOTICE: The Sunken Gardens are wheelchair accessible by a gravel / rocky path. We recommend that any audience members will accessibility needs or questions contact Mia ([email protected]) in advance, so that we can guarantee any accessibility needs are met!
