The Brent January Group

The Brent January Group is an acoustic-electric quartet based in Stellenbosch, Cape Town. After the roaring success of their sold-out concerts at the Johnman Concert Series over the past two years, the group has been preparing for upcoming performances across Cape Town in 2026. The ensemble performs a variety of original music, European jazz, and South African repertoire. This unique blend of styles, together with the sound of an acoustic-electric nylon-string guitar at the forefront, gives the group its powerful, yet intimate sound. Expect intimate soundscapes, intricate harmonies, and lively grooves that may even have you dancing. The programme proudly champions South African composers while also showcasing lesser-known European works. The group consists of Caleb Dlamini (drums), Melisizwe Plaatjie (piano), Brent January (guitars), Pizzo Magatyana (bass), and Henco Bester (saxophones)
