Reza Khota Quartet

Reza Khota - Guitar and pedals Jonno Sweetman - Drums Buddy Wells - Saxophone Nick Williams - Bass This Cape Town based Quartet centres around the 14 year long musical collaboration between Reza Khota, Jonno Sweetman, and Buddy Wells who have played together in various incarnations of Khota’s bands, with the longest standing being the quartet with bassist Shane Cooper. The band released their two albums Transmutation in 2013 and Liminal in 2018. The music created together has delved into the common sonic spaces between jazz, rock, afrobeat, ethio-jazz, South African Jazz, as well as music beyond classification. At the core of this musical collaboration is a deep concept of how to make a collective sound through the act of listening deeply, breathing vital energy into the musical moment. It is orchestration through an understanding of the sonic character and potential of the players and instruments.
