For this special performance at The Commons, Paras brings together his powerful Zulu vocals, African musical traditions and contemporary jazz, joined by some of Cape Town’s finest musicians: Brethew van Schalkwyk — Piano. ABOUT PARAS “SIBALUKHULU” DLAMINI Paras Dlamini is an internationally acclaimed South African jazz and world music vocalist, songwriter and performer whose music is deeply rooted in African heritage, spirituality and storytelling. Originally from KwaMashu and Ulundi in KwaZulu-Natal, Paras discovered his musical voice through the church, where he developed his early talents as a singer and drummer. His music draws strongly from his Zulu cultural heritage while embracing the freedom, improvisation and expressive language of jazz. His rich, distinctive voice and deeply spiritual approach to performance have established him as an exciting voice in contemporary South African music. Over the years, Paras has shared stages and collaborated with some of South Africa’s leading artists, including Judith Sephuma, Kelly Khumalo and Nduduzo Makhathini. His debut album, Ingoma Busuku (Song of Night), produced by acclaimed South African pianist and composer Nduduzo Makhathini, represents an important chapter in his artistic journey. The album explores themes of spirituality, African identity, heritage and personal expression, offering a fresh and deeply soulful interpretation of South African jazz. The recording features collaborations with acclaimed saxophonist Linda Sikhakhane and members of the SA/Swiss Celebration Group, and has taken Paras’ music beyond South Africa, including performances and international attention in Europe. Paras’ performances are more than concerts — they are immersive musical experiences that connect voice, rhythm, spirituality and African storytelling.
