Join us for a special reading of Kerry Black’s debut short story, Of A Feather, selected for publication as part of Utopia Canada’s Digital Collection.
"Of A Feather" is a poignant end-of-age story that follows three generations of women — grandmother, mother and daughter — as they navigate the quiet indignities of ageing, the complexities of caring for those who once cared for us, and the emotional weight of watching someone we love slowly decline. What happens when the world continues moving forward while you are left behind?
At its heart, Of A Feather is a meditation on memory, family and the invisible threads that bind generations together — a story that refuses to look away from the ugliness of growing old, while celebrating the extraordinary beauty of the love that persists through it all.
The evening will feature a live reading by Kerry, followed by a conversation and audience Q&A — a chance to talk about the story, what inspired it, the themes it explores, and how it resonates with those who hear it.
