Nasanjargal Ganbold & Johanni Curtet X Oh Mr James

The Cornish Bank, Falmouth

About

We are very excited for the latest residency collaboration between Nasanjargal Ganbold, Johanni Curtet and Oh Mr James. The three artists come together to perform in both Falmouth, Cornwall and Swansea, South Wales. In Mongolia, traditional music is deeply rooted in the natural environment and nomadic lifestyle. At the core of this sound ecology, whether with their instruments, such as the morin khuur horse fiddle or the tovshuur lute, or with their voices, through praises or throat-singing. Originally from Altai, the cradle of khöömii in Western Mongolia, Nasanjargal Ganbold (aka Nasaa), is a master of this unique vocal art. Accompanied by Johanni Curtet, a French ethnomusicologist and specialist in overtone singing, they tell a story about this nomadic culture through a journey far beyond the mountains, into the wide open spaces. Together they blend natural sounds, contemporary poems and improvisations, offering a deep immersion into the soul of Mongolian culture. Ben James Wood (aka Oh Mr James), originally from Wales now resides in Cornwall and is part of a new generation of Cornwall-based producers, mixing and matching modular and desktop and soft and hard synths to reboot Braindance for the 21st Century barn dance. We are really excited to see these three artists come together and hear how experimental electronic production can add another dimension to the Mongolian sounds. Funded by the Four Nations International Fund through Arts Council England, Arts Council Northern Ireland, Arts Council Wales, Creative Scotland and Wales Arts International.
