The most public part of Oxford's preparation for the Varsity Match remains the December game against the Major R.V. Stanley's XV. Stanley was an Oxford local who took a keen interest in OURFC, becoming our representative on the RFU committee from 1907 to 1923. The first Stanley's match was played in 1919, in which the future England greats and RFU Presidents, William Wavell Wakefield and Thomas Anthony Voyce, donned the white Stanley's shirt. The first Women*s Stanley’s match was played 100 years later, in 2019. Similar to the invitational team the Barbarians, the Stanley's XV has included some of the biggest names in world rugby and it is still regarded as a great honour to be selected.
These tickets will grant you access to Iffley Road for the whole day of action, including both the Women*s and Men*s Blues' matches against Major Stanley's XV. The Pavilion Bar will be open all day, and some of these tickets will also grant you access to the Marquee.
