Lizzie Gaisford

KZN-born songwriter/musician and ecologist, Lizzie Gaisford, returns to South Africa after a year in Cape Verde. During her time there, she recorded her debut solo album, Love the Land. For this show, she will perform the album, as well as new and old originals and some classics from her band, Fishwives. Guest artists will include Fishwives bandmate, Sarah Burger, and long-time KZN collaborator, Dave Starke. She is known for her poignantly descriptive, narrative lyrics and unique, alt-tuned fingerstyle guitar playing. Her songs’ characters are situated in acutely-observed, familiar settings, and protest themes include environmentalism, notions of community and South Africa’s GBV and femicide crisis.
