Classics & Cakes - Persuasion by Jane Austen

Classics & Cakes - Persuasion by Jane Austen

Queen Victoria Hall, Peterborough

About

‘Persuasion’, a tale of love revisited, was Jane Austen’s last completed work. It provides a tantalising vision of missed opportunity as she neared the end of her life. Breaking many of her own rules of composition, Austen wrote this novel with urgency and conviction. Join Dr Diana Hallam as she asks, 'What was she trying to say and to whom?' Diana is an Oxford graduate and experienced English teacher and lecturer, with the skill to draw out interesting themes and new viewpoints from well-loved texts. Join us for a wonderful afternoon of literature as we celebrate this classic book, with the addition of hot drinks and a selection of delicious homemade cakes. Doors open at 2pm for refreshments, the lecture begins at 2.30pm. Seats are not allocated for this event. Queen Victoria Hall is wheelchair accessible with disabled facilities onsite and a hearing loop. See 'Our Venues' page for more detailed accessibility information.
