The 12th Brian Lenihan Memorial Lecture

The 15th Trinity College Law Student Colloquium is delighted to invite you to join us at the 12th annual Brian Lenihan Memorial Lecture and the first to take place in person since the pandemic. We are truly honoured to host Noeline Blackwell, the current CEO of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre as the keynote speaker for the 2022/2023 session of the Colloquium. ABOUT THE MEMORIAL LECTURE AND NOELINE: The annual Memorial Lecture was established in honour of the late Brian Lenihan (1959 - 2011), and his substantial contributions to Irish public life. Mr Lenihan completed his undergraduate studies at the School of Law at Trinity College, during which time he was elected a Scholar. In his succeeding years, he lectured in law at Trinity and was elected as a TD before being called to office as Minister of State for Children, following which he was appointed Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform and, finally, Minister for Finance; a role he served in until his death in 2011. Over the years, the Colloquium has been honoured to invite prominent legal scholars and public figures to deliver the lecture, including a number of Irish Supreme Court Justices, the first female President of the European Court of Human Rights and many more distinguished figures. This year, it is our privilege to host Noeline Blackwell, the current CEO of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre (DRCC), a voluntary organisation which works to prevent harm and heal the trauma of sexual violence. Prior to her role in the DRCC, Ms Blackwell served as former Director-General of the access to justice organisation, FLAC, for over a decade. A solicitor by trade and a human rights lawyer at heart, Ms Blackwell began her career in private practice, where she had a particular interest in refugee and immigration issues as well as family law. Over the years, she has been a source of enduring light and support for many people during their darkest moments and an inspiration for many more. She has recently been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Irish Law Awards and an honourary doctorate in laws by Trinity College Dublin. It is our greatest honour to have Noeline deliver the 12th Brian Lenihan Memorial Lecture. The Committee is very much looking forward to welcoming you to the lecture on Friday, 17th February.
