About

‘It is a scream or a shout of pain. It is a revolt.’ The Edinburgh Shakespeare Company Presents Steven Berkoff’s ‘East’. A raw and unsanitized depiction of a working-class community living in London’s East End during the 1960s. Through the combination of poetic Shakespearean dialogue and Cockney slang we are given a vision of the world as seen through the eyes of three young people - Mike, Les and Sylv, and their two symbols of parenthood Mum and Dad. In this visceral remembering of Berkoff’s youth, the characters battle with the mundane and their desires to assert their existence in a world that seems to blot them out. Through violence, vulgarity, and gore as much as tenderness and earnest humanity, ‘East’ offers a simultaneously caricatured and honest version of reality. Wee Red Bar 20th-21st November 7:30pm Tickets will be coming in the next few days so keep your eyes out! Please be aware this show is 18+!
