About

The New College Classical Drama Society is delighted to announce David Raeburn’s anticipated production of Aeschylus' Agamemnon. His tenth tragedy at New College, and one of the finest works of ancient drama, Agamemnon promises to be a striking and moving performance with the power of formal staging and the elegance of Louis MacNeice’s translation. Agamemnon is a play about the cycle of vengeance and the inevitability of the suffering of one who acts wrongly. Clytemnestra waits at home for her husband’s return from Troy to exact vengeance for his slaughter of their daughter Iphigenia. David Raeburn returns to the director’s seat to deliver one of his favourite plays, and one whose language and feeling he has studied as few others have. We hope you can join us for this exciting performance which continues what we hope will be a lasting tradition of ancient drama at New College. Dates: Wednesday 5th - Saturday 8th June, 8pm. Location: New College Cloisters If you have any further questions, please contact [email protected]
