We are thrilled to unveil our amazing lineup of industry experts at TweetFest this year, starting with the dream team of filmmaker females who are smashing it. FULL EVENT DETAILS: Date: Saturday 9th Nov Time: 2.30pm - 3.30pm Location: Hen and Chickens Theatre Nearest tubes Highbury and Islington OUR INCREDIBLE PANEL: * LAURA JAI SMITH Laura is an award-winning film and television writer and director whose work has been described by INDIEWIRE as “an intriguing marriage of the psychological and the visceral”. Her short films were financed by the BFI, CHANNEL 4 and FILM LONDON among others and received support from the SOUTH AUSTRALIAN FILM CORPORATION. They were filmed on location in the UK, Australia and Germany and screened worldwide at OSCAR, BAFTA and BIFA qualifying festivals, cinemas and on television including BFI LONDON FILM FESTIVAL, LOCARNO, AESTHETICA, EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, HOLLYSHORTS, BRIEF ENCOUNTERS the CURZON and VUE cinema chains, CHANNEL 4 television and ABC (Australia). She is currently developing feature films as a director and writer/director which have received development finance from BFI, BBC FILMS and CREATIVE EUROPE and have been selected for the CANNES FILM FESTIVAL’S FRONTIERÈS programme, the EUROPEAN GENRE FORUM and FILM LONDON’s PRODUCTION FINANCE MARKET (NEW TALENT STRAND). She has directed over thirty episodes of television drama for the BBC, CHANNEL 4 and HULU including BBC’s Primetime hospital drama CASUALTY, Channel 4’s multi-BAFTA winning HOLLYOAKS and BBC sci-fi series THE SPARTICLE MYSTERY. She is a graduate of the UK’s NFTS and has a 1st Class Degree in Fine Art. * GEORGINA HAIG Georgina Haig is an Australian performer known for her extensive work across varied genres and her portrayal of iconic characters, including Queen Elsa in Once Upon a Time, Paula Yates in INXS: Never Tear Us Apart and Olivia Cotterill in Secret Bridesmaids Business. After graduating from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts Georgina began working on local television, independent films and comedies (Wasted on the Young, A Moody Christmas, The Mule, Maximum Choppage). A self tape sent from Sydney secured her the role of Etta Bishop on Fringe, which began her international career. * OLETA HAFFNER Oleta is a composer for visual media specialising in creating distinctive sound pallets for unique stories. Starting off her professional journey with music for theatre, Oleta has gone on to write music for short films, feature films, web series, animation, poetry and dance. In 2022, she was chosen to participate in the Jonas Gwangwa Composition Initiative Scheme with The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Science which has led her to work with established and up-and-coming creatives. * ZARA SYMES Zara is an Australian-Scottish actor and filmmaker whose writing focuses on shifting identities, the female experience and sexuality within thrilling genre worlds. Zara's adaptation of New York Times bestselling novel THE TAKING OF ANNIE THORNE for The Imaginarium is currently out to broadcasters with Richard Armitage attached, and Zara is co-adapting Victor Hugo's classic THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME for Intaglio Films with Charles Dance attached. Zara has written and produced several award-winning short films. ON AIR starring Dr Who's Mandip Gill and Zara's short film directing debut PUFF both premiered at Frightfest and London Short Film Festival among other prestigious international festivals (like ours - TWEETFEST). PUFF was recently awarded Best Microshot Film in the BFI 225 Film Club's Female Excellence in Direction awards. Zara has worked extensively with NBCUniversal as a script editor and development coordinator across new and returning series, and as script consultant on the studio's Venice Berlinale nominated multi-narrative VR/AR series ELEVEN ELEVEN. Zara’s next short film HE DIED BUT WOULDN'T LEAVE, a body horror examining the end-of-life care of aging parents which Zara has written and will direct, has been commissioned for production in early 2025 by Erebus Pictures.
