The Commons Fest. T. C. F. 26. #1 (Andile Yenana & Muneeb Hermans)

This is an intergenerational performance where we witness the aliveness and dynamic exploration of South African jazz . Opening on this first night of the festival is Muneeb Hermans Quintet followed by Bra Andile Yenana. 1. Muneeb Hermans is back with another installment of his award nominated project. This performance will see Muneeb revisit the music off his Debut Album "One for HP" with his quintet featuring Marlon Witbooi on drums, Sean Sanby on upright bass, Blake Hellaby on piano, Justin Bellairs on alto Sax and Muneeb Hermans on Trumpet. When we engage South African jazz and figures whose body of work have been significant to defining and advancing aspects (sonic and political) of a style so unique and quintessential to the region, Elders like Bra Andile Yenana are living archives to reference. With a long list of accomplishments and collaboration with other South African greats such as Zim Ngqawana, Feya Faku, Sibongile Khumalo, Gloria Bosman and Suthukazi Arosi, just to mention a few. We are so honored and can not wait to experience an offering this special closing the opening night of the festival.
