Simon Van Gend "Dream I'm a Bird"

Simon van Gend is a South African singer-songwriter whose music blends soulful melodies with introspective, finely crafted lyrics. Influenced early on by Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Paul Simon, he has developed a distinctive voice over the course of six albums with his band. His acclaimed Suffer Well (2015) emerged from an ambitious song-a-week project, a process he repeated in 2017 to produce the songs that eventually found their way onto his latest release, Dream I’m a Bird (2025). The new album showcases a refined maturity, with standout tracks such as “River at the End of the Road” and “Another New Morning” cementing his reputation as one of South Africa’s enduring indie-folk talents.
