This term, OUIS invites you to discover Oxford one glass at a time with Calici by the College. Each week, we’ll be heading to a different Oxford college for an Italian-style aperitivo: a chance to unwind, meet new people and explore some of the University’s most beautiful and characterful spaces.
For this edition, we will be joined by the Oxford University French Society!
So grab a glass, bring a friend—or come along and make some new ones—as we celebrate two cultures united by a love of good food, good wine and even better conversation.
This week: St Anne's College
Our journey takes us north to St Anne's College, one of Oxford's most welcoming and forward-thinking colleges. With roots dating back to 1879, St Anne's began as the Society of Oxford Home-Students, offering women the opportunity to pursue a university education without the financial burden of living in a residential college. It became a fully fledged college in 1952, proudly carrying forward its pioneering commitment to accessibility, inclusivity and academic excellence.
Unlike Oxford's more traditional colleges, St Anne's is known for its distinctive blend of Victorian villas, modern architecture and open green spaces. Its relaxed atmosphere and unconventional layout reflect a college that has always embraced doing things a little differently.
From its pioneering beginnings in women's education to its vibrant international community today, St Anne's provides the perfect setting for an evening celebrating friendship across borders, shared traditions and the simple pleasure of enjoying a glass together.
Come and join the Italian and French Societies for a calice or a verre (or two!) as we bring a little taste of Italy and France to Oxford!
Ci vediamo lì! À bientôt! 🇮🇹🇫🇷
