Introduction to Natural Dye with Sophie Holt
Saturday 4 October, 10am – 1pm
Create your own bundle-dyed tote bag as you discover the world of dye plants and the colours within.
BRING A FRIEND FOR FREE! For this workshop, we invite you to sign up for yourself and one friend. Please book one ticket, and then email [email protected] with the name and email address for your friend.
Join dye grower Sophie Holt to explore the range of colour to be found in from plants and flowers. We'll begin by exploring the Community Garden and Dye Garden at organicARTS along with a range of plants form Sophie's own Dye Garden, comparing the flowers with the hugely varying resultant fabrics. You'll gain an insight into the effects of mordants and modifiers on different fabrics and the whole dye process before creating your own bundle dyed organic tote bag to take home.
Sophie Holt is the visionary behind PIGMENT Organic Dyes CIC, a social enterprise facilitating adults with additional needs to receive support, work experience and training in a therapeutic environment, while supplying artists, dyers and the wider textile industry with plants for natural dye processes. What Sophie doesn't know about natural dyeing and how to communicate it, is (questionably?!) not worth knowing!
This workshop is suitable for adults and young people aged 14+. The morning may include a pause for a short walk in the beautiful surroundings of organicARTS (fingers crossed for the weather!) – please wear suitable footwear and bring a snack if needed.
Please let us know your access requirements when you book your ticket. Workshop cost includes all materials and tote bag..
