Hear Me Out: Some Representation is Exploitation Not every story is told with care. Sometimes it's told because it sells. For our second lecture, we're asking a question that sits at the heart of reality television, media, and the stories we consume every day: When does representation become exploitation? Join us for an evening with Lesedi Mensele, as she unpacks ideas from her honours research, “Rea Tsotella: The Exploration of Black Pain and Experiences for Entertainment and Profit”. Together, we'll explore how programmes that claim to represent Black lived experiences can, over time, begin to commodify trauma, reinforce stereotypes, and turn pain into entertainment.
