Come and hear from industry professionals, including festival directors from BAFTA and BIFA qualifying festivals, about how to give yourself the best chance when making a short film. He was the short film programmer for the BFI London Film Festival between 2006 and 2022, and has worked as a freelance programmer, including at the East End Film Festival (London), Cork Film Festival (Ireland), and the Branchage Festival (Jersey), Latitude music festival, and at Curzon Soho Cinema. * DUSTIN CURTIS MURPHY Dustin is an award-winning narrative short and feature filmmaker, having taken on various roles including writer, director, producer and executive producer. His latest short "Everything Is Out To Get Me" played 8 BIFA qualifying festivals, and his previous shorts have had similarly successful festival runs with eventual distribution on Omeleto, wracking up tens of thousands of views. Recently Murphy made the leap to feature filmmaking with the dystopian sci-fi "Coyote" (released in the UK on Sky, Amazon & other platforms under the alternate title "Teleport"). Coyote was nominated for Best Feature Film at the National Film Awards, won the Grand Prize for a Sci-Fi Feature at the Oscar Qualifying Flicker's Rhode Island International Film Festival, and Best Director at the Unrestricted View Film Festival. As the CEO of Kino Short Film, Murphy has championed hundreds of emerging filmmakers. * STEPHEN GALLACHER Stephen has over a decade of experience in directing, both as a lead director, most recently on McDonald & Dodds for Mammoth Screen/ITV as well as directing second unit on notable series' including London Kills (BBC/Acorn TV) and Fifteen-Love (World Productions/Amazon UK). Over the last few years, he has been mentored by Peter Hoar, originally as part of the Directors UK Inspire Mentor Scheme, and has worked with numerous household names such as Aidan Turner, Olivia Colman and Jason Watkins. He also directed the wonderful Dermot Crowley, in his most recent short Harold & Mary, a moving and personal story of a man struggling with dementia, which had a very successful run at various BIFA and BAFTA qualifying festivals earlier this year. Stephen's focus in both his original ideas as well as his directing work is socio-political dramas and intriguing thrillers. With a deep-rooted commitment to honest and meaningful filmmaking, he is always striving to bring authentic visuals to the screen, serving the narrative and the characters at its core. * MARK BRENNAN Mark has a wide breadth of experience with short films. He is a filmmaker and screenwriter who has had work screened at multiple accredited film festivals. He is a festival strategist at Festival Formula, and he is also a Festival Director at the BIFA-qualifying Exit 6 Film Festival. These three roles give him a unique perspective of the worldwide film festival circuit. You can see why we are excited. What a cracking panel.
