THIS PRODUCTION WILL BE RECORDED What happens when humans are given power and left to bend a place to their will? THE TEMPEST is a play about bringing and inflicting your junk on an unspoiled shore, and those that inhabit it. This interpretation will highlight western consumerism and its impact on the environment, how we pollute unspoiled corners of the world through our oceans and allow our stuff to wash up somewhere. This excessive lifestyle is showcased by the hawaiian shirt- adorning, Ibiza-holidaying court of Milan who are washed up on Prospero’s island during a storm that ruins their yacht party. Prospero, over 12 years, has allowed the place to become a run-down shadow of his former modern life, so he can feel like a ruler of something: Branded waste and bits of washed up pop culture make up his kingdom, which looks more like an abandoned beach club. Staged in the round and showcasing bold and colourful character-driven performances, this production will be a high energy, ensemble-centred and fun take on Shakespeare's classic comedy where, buried underneath a mass of funky dances, physical comedy and an awful lot of 2000’s chart toppers, is a thought provoking sentiment about our treatment of the world.
