Newman Purple LT, Exeter

Exeter

About

Join fair fashion and Remake Ambassador Jemima Elliott (she/her) to dig into the gendered and colonial power dynamics of the fashion industry. There will be the opportunity for discussion and light refreshments from 2pm with the workshop beginning at 3pm.  This workshop will look at the basics of sustainable and ethical fashion, how exploitation and violence are rooted in the heart of the fashion industry, and some specific case studies of how gender inequalities manifests in modern fashion supply chains. Huge systemic injustices like those in the fashion industry can be really overwhelming, so after learning about these issues, we’ll also look at how you can make change. Everyone has the potential to make the fashion industry better, no matter how small! There will be discussions on poverty, sexual assault, murder, worker exploitation, mass death, colonialism, racism, suppression of democracy. This event is in collaboration with Be the Change Society.
