Mata ni Pachedi is a textile art which is said to be over 300 years old. It is practised by Vaghari nomads who live along the banks of Sabarmati River in Gujarat. When foreign invaders invaded India, they destroyed the temples and other religious institutions of Gujarat. To protect and secure the traditional beliefs and prevent the invading forces from blasphemy the Vaghari nomads transferred the idols of their gods and goddesses on a fabric which was easier to save from destruction.
Let us learn together how to paint a man with a musical instrument - a subject that artists love to visit time and again, in this painting style. Join us at Rooftop in our Mata ni Pachhedi painting workshop.
