JazzSoc x Off The Record Gig Night: Sunship Trio ft. Tracy Ray and Dave Lagnado | 08/11/23, 20:00-23:30 @ Hidden Rooms 'Sunship' is the musical vehicle of Ceri Evans. After winning a 'Best Jazz Artist’ MOBO award for his debut 'Sunship' album, Ceri went on to top the National Charts championing the ‘UK Garage’ sound. Sunship is still ablaze, playing piano, prolifically remixing, DJing, producing and writing. Currently, Ceri plays keys in a trio with two talented British Jazz musicians; Dave Lagnado and Tracy Ray. Dave and Ceri reunited a decade ago after initially meeting on the London jazz scene in the 80's. A remarkable accomplished bass player, Dave's groove and tone are not only authentic, but a beacon of integrity in the jazz tradition. Together with Tracy Ray, the trio creates an authentic soulful jazzthetic. Tracy Ray, soon to be releasing her EP 'Northfields Nocturnes' on Sunship Recordings, is a regular on the London jazz scene and has been gradually working her way to becoming one of the top UK vocalists in the jazz genre. Her phrasing, and beautifully plaintive tone (think Ella meets Chet Baker), are a marvel to behold, as well as her soulful elasticity when presenting a melody. This night will begin with The Sunship Trio playing various numbers, and then fusion into some relaxed Jazz House by Off the Record DJ's DJ Doggy and XANTHE.
