Is the Old Master old fashioned? A talk with George Gordon: Co-Chairman, Sotheby’s Worldwide Old Master Paintings and Drawings Department, and Auctioneer - NOVEMBER 22nd at 6PM at the Courtauld Institute of Art in Vernon Square.
-
We are honoured to welcome George Gordon, Co-Chairman, Worldwide Old Master Paintings and Auctioneer at Sotheby’s, for a talk with the Business of Art Society.
-
Mr Gordon joined Sotheby’s in 1980, from Trinity College, Dublin. In 1997, he oversaw the sale of the Henle collection of Dutch and Flemish Old Masters, and was responsible for the rediscovery of Rubens’ Massacre of the Innocents, which achieved £49.5 million at Sotheby’s in 2002, making it then, and still today, the most expensive Old Master painting ever sold at auction.
-
Mr Gordon has an extensive knowledge of Netherlandish art and has come to enjoy close ties with many leading Dutch experts, scholars, and museum curators, and with collectors worldwide.
-
With us, George Gordon will be discussing the Old Master market over time.
-
The talk will be followed by drinks and a networking session. 🥂
