In the last few years, a narrative has emerged that black people have long played a central role in British history, and that this fact has been ignored.
'Discoveries' like the supposedly dark-skinned Cheddar Man, Tudor musician John Blanke and the equipment of North African Roman Legionaries stationed along Hadrian's Wall have been cited as evidence that Black Britons have been 'here from the start', as stated in a Horrible Histories video two years ago. But is this really true? Or are political narratives, supported by at-best shakey evidence, once again obscuring the truth of the matter?
In the interest of a free and open discourse and to challenge prevailing narratives of our day, Freedom Society is extraordinarily proud to host Tom Rowsell, historian and independent filmmaker, known also by his YouTube alias SurviveTheJive, to answer the question: 'How Black is British History?'
The event will be taking place at 19.30 on Tuesday 21st November in the Henderson Lecture Theatre, which is in the Business School on Streatham Campus. Tickets are only available to those with memberships – which, remember, is only £5! – and we will be checking on the door.
