Lady Margaret Hall

About

Mary Hockaday is the current Controller of the BBC World Service English, having held the position since October 2014. Boasting a wealth of experience in global journalism, Mary has been working with the BBC since 1986, and throughout her career has been responsible for coverage of the fall of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic in the 1990s, 9/11, and the Invasion of Iraq at start of the century. More recently, Mary was appointed Deputy Head of the BBC Newsroom in 2007, and subsequently led areas such as BBC News at Six and BBC News at Ten, the most-watched news programmes in the United Kingdom. Having spent the last 30 years at the heart of worldwide media, Mary will offer an insightful discussion concerning the spread of fake news, truth and facts with a more global outlook. This event will take place in the Old Library, Lady Margaret Hall (Oxford).
