About

Oxford University Gilbert and Sullivan Society presents 'Iolanthe'. Twenty-five years after her banishment from fairyland for the unpardonable crime of marrying a mortal, Iolanthe has been pardoned. Meanwhile, her son Strephon (a fairy 'down to the waistcoat') hopes to marry his beloved Phyllis, the Lord Chancellor's ward. Unfortunately, she knows nothing of his parentage and the both the Chancellor and the House of Peers want her for themselves. In despair, Strephon invokes the aid of his fairy relatives, setting in motion a parliamentary crisis of Shakespearean proportions. Will true love triumph, or will the British peerage carry the day? Featuring some of Sullivan's most beautiful music and Gilbert’s most brutal satire directed towards the peerage, this is not a production to be missed!
