Black History Month Panel Discussion

Sidney Sussex Old Library

About

Sidney's BME Officers are commemorating British Black History Month with an insightful discussion between inspiring Black academics and activists. We will be joined by the following panellists who will engage with the audience on topics such as the contributions of Black Britons, the state of scholarship on Black Britons, racism within the academe, and the contemporary effects of the legacy of slavery and empire. *Chardine Taylor-Stone, a tireless cultural producer and activist named of one Buzzfeed’s ‘Most Inspiring British LGBT People Of 2016'. *Dr Kennetta Hammond Perry, an expert on Afro-Caribbean migration to Britain following World War Two, and Black British citizenship and identity after the Windrush. *Dr Adam Elliott-Cooper, a leading scholar and anti-racism activist whose research focuses on British policing, racist discourses and their relationship to the criminalization of black communities. We hope to see you there, for what is going to be an insightful and fascinating discussion. There will be refreshments available from 5:45pm, and the discussion will begin at 6pm. This event is open to all Sidney students and academics.
