About

The Trinity College Commemoration Ball invites you to enter the world of W.M. Thackeray's Vanity Fair. With our reimagining of the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, Oxford will come alive for its most immersive ball yet. "Canaletto painted it; Casanova loitered under the trees; Leopold Mozart was astonished by the dazzling lights” The Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens was London's most innovative and fashionable entertainment in the 18th and 19th centuries, drawing people in with the promise of unrivalled merrymaking. They provided revellers with an extravagant experience that transcended social and national boundaries. They came in droves to drink, feast, and delight. Finding themselves in the rococo Turkish tent, or swathed in chinoiserie, guests knew that an evening at the Gardens would be one to remember. Noted for its fire-breathers, tightrope walkers, acrobats, clairvoyants, and the appearances of the most sought after musicians and artists of the age. The Gardens were the birthplace of modern day decadence. So, dive into a world of wonder and raucous fun where, as night falls, the lanterns descend, the performers emerge, and we bring the Vauxhall season to life. Date: Friday 26th June 2020 Dress Code: White Tie Non-Dining ticket holders arrive at 8pm. Dining ticket holders arrive at 6pm. £1 has been added to every ticket, which will go as a donation to Trinity Commemoration Ball's chosen charity, Solidaritee.
