About

Following yet another five-star sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe, EUSOG are back and thrilled to be mounting Mel Brooks’ Broadway smash-hit, The Producers. The production caused a furore when it was first performed in 2001, breaking (and holding to this day) the record for the most Tony Awards won by a musical. The Producers contains all the wit and wackiness of the 1967 Mel Brooks film with some added showbiz pizazz. It follows two producers; former big-shot Max Bialystock, and newcomer Leo Bloom, as they implement a fraudulent scheme to produce the biggest Broadway flop of all time. Assisted by a team of zany characters, they produce “Springtime for Hitler”, (supposedly) a sure-fire disaster. However, when audiences believe the production to be a satire, it is deemed a huge success and Max and Leo find themselves in trouble with the authorities. The Producers is a ridiculous and delightful show, with fantastical numbers ranging from the wittiest to the shockingly offensive (and hysterically funny) lyrics ever written. This is sure to be one of the society’s most exciting productions to date! Also, an absolutely massive thank you to both Gav Smart for his incredible photography, and Naty Baránková for her brilliant graphic design!
