About

UK hip hop legends Dr Syntax & Pete Cannon are back with a new album, 'Wallop'. After a decade of touring together, the duo's renowned live show is a riotous mash-up of styles and genres, and 'Wallop' reflects this eclectic approach to a T. Fresh from providing certified bangers for the likes of Ocean Wisdom, Dirty Dike and Inja, Pete Cannon continues the trend here with touches of jungle, breakbeat and grime, as well as his trademark hip hop sound. On vocal duties, Syntax shows his versatility and well-honed skills, supplying the perfect compliment to Pete's heavyweight production. The impressive roster of guest vocalists includes Fox, Sparkz, Jman, Illaman, K.O.G, Franz Von Zongo and Joe Burn. 'Wallop' is the duo's sixth collaborative release since 2014's 'Killer Combo' album. Syntax and Pete have carved themselves a niche with their irreverent, often comedic take on rap; witty, relatable rhymes are paired with hard-hitting beats showcasing a variety of styles and influences. Previous collaborators include UK hip hop luminaries Dirty Dike and Lunar C, and US indie rap legend Del The Funky Homosapien. Dr Syntax first appeared as a regular collaborator and guest with the legendary Foreign Beggars crew, featuring on their first three albums and performing with them at countless live shows worldwide. He embarked on a solo path in 2007, releasing his acclaimed debut ‘Self Taught’, followed by several collaborative albums, including the follow-up 'Benny Huge', 'A Slice Of Fried Gold' (with producer Tom Caruana) and 'Scene Stealers' (with rapper-turned-actor Ed Skrein as Skreintax). Until 2017 he fronted Manchester hip hop band The Mouse Outfit, appearing on all their albums to date and rocking hundreds of crowds in venues and festivals all over Europe. The group's debut, 'Escape Music', featuring seven collaborations with Syntax (including the title track), won the Wordplay Magazine 'Album Of The Year' and made ABC News' 'Albums Of The Year' list. Pete Cannon is a one-man production powerhouse, having worked with US rappers such as Action Bronson and Guilty Simpson, as well as a who’s who of UK hip hop talent, notably most of the ever-growing High Focus roster. He produced ‘Lost Generation’, a UK top 5 hit for Rizzle Kicks, and Ocean Wisdom’s single ‘Don’, from his Top 40-charting album ‘Wizville’. The track was used internationally on the advert for EA Sports’ ‘FIFA 19’ game. In March 2018, his solo single ‘Bang Bang’ was used on an advert for Apple’s iPhone X, bringing his music to an international audience of millions. He has recently made forays into jungle and drum and bass with production on Inja’s album ‘Blank Pages’, and a track on the 'Sick Music 2019' compilation on Hospital Records. He has released two EPs on legendary old skool label Kniteforce Records, and has launched his own jungle imprint, N4 Records, currently two releases deep with plenty more planned. 'Wallop' is scheduled for release in September 2019 on vinyl and digital formats, with several music videos in the works.
