Want to learn more about the basics of self defence? Want to learn more about the different types of violence and gain tools to help defend yourself against different kinds of attacks - also ambushes? Want to learn more about red flags in relationships of all kinds and how to deescalate tension? Then come to this unique self-defence weekend course October 12-13 at Sandy's Bar! Our self defence instructor is Dan-Philipp Trailescu: - University of St Andrews alumnus and former member of the Aikido Club - WCA self-defence Instructor - Certified Conflict Communication Instructor - Founder of Luceo Training which provides training in conflict resolution and communication skills - MSc in Health and Social Science from the University of Edinburgh. Thesis: "Martial Meanings: A Thematic Analysis of Transformational Teaching in Self-Defence." All ages and abilities are welcome. The course will consist of 2 4-hour long sessions (with breaks of course) - and a social on the Saturday. Cost Students: £20 Non-Students: £30 Event Schedule/Running Order: Day 1: • Introduction and safety briefing (1h) o Safety o Intro to the drills: one step, slow motion o Golden move & efficiency • Physical block: Structure & Leverage (1h) o Structure & power transmission o Head and arm controls • Theory block: Fundamentals of Violence (1h) o Social & Asocial violence o Assault vs. Fight o Some basic stats about violent crime • Physical block: Power Generation & Targeting (1h) o Hip twitch, drop step & wave o Very basic targeting Day 2: • Safety brief & intro (1/2h) o Safety reminder o One-step reminder • Physical block: Counter ambush (1h) o Drop step reminder o Counter ambush techniques o Operant conditioning • Theory block: Awareness & boundary setting (1h) o Awareness basics o Boundary setting o Relationship red flags • Physical block: Fighting to the goal (1h) o Follow ups from counter assault o Three goals o If time, plastic mind • Debrief & aftermath talk (1/2 h) Hope to see you all there!
