VS1 x East Wing Biennial Opening 2023

The Courtauld Institute of Art, Vernon Square Campus

About

Opening of the VS1 x East Wing collection, showcasing embodiment, on September 22, 2023, from 5:00 pm until late. With works from London Based Gallery Piano Nobile's Ruth Borchard's next-generation collection and emerging artists, VS1 will draw on the legacy of Joshua Compston, whose innovative thinking built the foundations for such a longstanding Courtauld Tradition. After six years, VS1 will showcase embodiment in an attempt to revive this tradition within the Institute's new campus in Vernon Square and in the words of Joshua Compston himselfself ‘destroying all vestiges of nudity upon the walls of Vernon Square as once again place art back upon the bare walls of the Courtauld Institute of Arts campus’. The VS1 iteration of the East Wing Biennial represents a significant cultural event, not only for its focus on embodiment and rekindling the Courtauld Tradition but also for its utilization of the new campus in Vernon Square as a space to bring art closer to its audience. It offers a platform for established and emerging artists to showcase their works and contribute to the evolution of contemporary art practices. The Opening event on the 22nd of September 2023 promises an exciting experience for art enthusiasts. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore this year's collection, which will be on display for a two-year period. There will also be music performances and film screenings alongside the art exhibition.
