Oxford University Gilbert and Sullivan Society is proud to present our Michaelmas Term production of 'The Mikado'.
The Victorian Temple College, Oxford, where students come to make merry, is filled with 'culture' and 'dignity'. Temple has elected Coco to the lofty heights of Lord High Executioner, freeing the college from the Mikado's tyrannical rule through legal trickery. Just when it all seems to be coming together for Coco, a rival for his betrothed returns to the town, with the Mikado not far behind...
Our production hopes to contribute to the question of how we treat problematic but worthwhile art in the modern edge. It interrogates 'The Mikado' as a work in its own cultural context, whilst promising the typical hilarious writing and masterful score the show is known for.
