About

We’re thrilled to welcome Clare Pollard as one of this term's guest poets! 🌟 Clare (@poetclare) published her debut collection, 'The Heavy-Petting Zoo', with Bloodaxe when she was just 19. Since then, her poetry has woven past and present through a deep engagement with mythology—making her a perfect fit for this year’s Ash Anthology theme. She has released five collections with Bloodaxe, including 'Incarnation', and her poem 'Pollen' was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best Single Poem 2022. Beyond poetry, Clare has led major translation projects—most notably her version of Ovid’s 'Heroines', which she also toured as a one-woman show. She spent five years as editor of Modern Poetry in Translation and has since published both a children’s novel ('The Untameables') and an adult novel ('The Modern Fairies'). Currently, she’s the artistic director of the Winchester Poetry Festival, with her next collection, 'Lives of the Female Poets', set to release with Bloodaxe in September 2025. 📅 Join us for a 'fireside' chat this Thursday, 6th Feb, 5:30–6:30 PM in the St Cross Room, St Cross College
